3 Top Tips You Don’t Want to Miss Before April 15th — Tax Day

Deadlines — everybody hates them. This is especially true if you’re someone who’s prone to procrastinating. Some people have a tendency to keep putting things off. When the deadline finally comes, everything comes crashing down.

Before we turned into adults with jobs, salaries, and responsibilities, our deadlines used to be about passing papers and finishing projects. Now that we’re adults, one of the deadlines that we have is the filing of our income tax returns on April 15th, which is designated as Tax Day in the United States.

Tax Day is the deadline when everyone’s individual tax returns are due. It almost always falls on the 15th of April unless it happens to fall on a weekend or on a state holiday, in which case it’s moved to the next business day.

If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, don’t sweat it (though we’re not saying procrastinating is a good thing). It’s because you’re not alone. A large number of Americans wait until the last minute to file their taxes. Whatever day you file your tax return, make sure that you do it before Tax Day, or else you’ll be slapped with penalties for late filing.

3 Top Tips to Take Note of When Filing Your Tax Return

If this is the first time you’re filing your tax return, then this is definitely for you. Remember that April 15th is the official deadline. Unless you happen to be living in Maine or Massachusetts (where Tax Day is moved to the 17th because of Patriot’s Day, which is a holiday), the only way for you to push the filing deadline a little further is by getting an extension.

We’ve listed below three important tips to help you keep things in check when you file your taxes:

  1. Double-check everything.

This is pretty basic and has been taught, reminded, and instilled in us ever since we were still in school. The IRS highly recommends that you check for common mistakes or typos when you file your return in order to save time and prevent the hassle that goes with it.

The most common mistakes often found are:

  • Spelling typos/Misspelled names
  • Incorrect bank account
  • Unsigned forms
  • Typos/mistakes with Social Security numbers
  1. Maximize the use of free tax services.

If you’re someone who makes $66,000 annually or less, the IRS has its “Free File” software made available that can help you file your taxes. There is also the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which offers tax help to seniors, disabled individuals, and those making less than $55,000 per year.

  1. If you don’t have a choice, an extension is the way to go.

There are plausible reasons for missing the tax filing deadline. Whether it’s work-related responsibilities or if you have been out on vacation somewhere in Asia, you do have the option to get a six-month extension.

Our Veterans Have Much Bigger Problems

While some of us are worried that we might not be able to beat the tax-filing deadline, many of our veterans have much bigger problems. For instance, the homeless, jobless, and impoverished among them are worried about where they’re going to get their next meal.

The good news is that helping ease their plight and turning their lives around is something people like you can easily do. All you have to do is donate your old vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations.

We’ll sell your clunker via auction and use the generated funds to support the programs and services of our veteran-focused charity partners. These IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations provide their veteran beneficiaries and their families with financial assistance, free medical treatment, employment opportunities, family support, and other essential services.

Great rewards await you as our donor. You’ll get free pick-up and towing services from us and entitle yourself to receive a handsome tax deduction.

We accept nearly all types of vehicles, including those that need a lot of work. We can also collect your vehicle wherever you are in the country since we have a nationwide vehicle donation program.
