What You Need to Know about Gold Star Mother’s Day

A lot of people may not know this, but here in the United States, we celebrate two Mother’s Days. One is celebrated in May and the other (the less popular one) in September. The latter is observed to honor the Gold Star Mothers of the military who lost their brave sons and daughters while they were fighting for our country.

A Gold Star Mother belongs to a club that no mother should never want to join. It’s a distinction that every mother wishes not to have because there are no words to describe how painful it is for a parent to lose a child. Nevertheless, for Gold Star Mothers, it’s a distinction that they will carry on with honor.

American Gold Star Mothers Inc.

What can provide comfort to a Gold Star Mother during the most difficult times of her life is the realization that other mothers are experiencing the same grief and sorrow as her. That’s the reason behind the creation of a group called the American Gold Star Mothers Inc. where mothers of soldiers killed in action get support from each other. Through their fellowship, they aim to keep the memories of their sons and daughters alive.

The group was founded in 1928 by a woman named Grace Darling Siebold from Washington D.C. who lost her son during World War I. She worked at veterans’ hospitals in the hopes of finding his son among the injured soldiers. As she went through with her search, she met a lot of other mothers who shared the same goals as her — finding their lost children.

Their shared experiences compelled them to form a group. Although many of them weren’t able to successfully find their children, they took comfort in knowing that they found support from other mothers.

The American Gold Star Mothers Inc. helps veterans and troops, as well as their families.

Every last Sunday of September is always an important event to them as it is the celebration of the glory, honor, and bravery of the children they lost because of the war. On Gold Star Mother’s Day, they organize events, ceremonies, and parties to celebrate the lives of our fallen heroes.

You Can Help Veterans, Too!

You don’t have to be a Gold Star Mother to participate in charities and events that aim to help the troops and veterans in your community. Even if you are an ordinary citizen, you can participate in activities and projects that seek to provide our nation’s heroes with all the assistance they need. Whether you donate your time, money, or effort, you’ll be contributing to the betterment of the lives of our veterans.

We at Veteran Car Donations, in particular, are helping needy veterans live normal decent lives. Together with like-minded nonprofits, we’re on a mission to address the many challenges faced by our nation’s heroes. We collect vehicle donations and sell them at top auction houses, after which we distribute the proceeds to our charity partners.

In turn, these IRS-certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations use the money to provide deserving veterans and their families with quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, psychotherapy services, and many other benefits.

While your charitable contribution will provide needy veterans and their families with the assistance they badly need, you, too, will benefit from your charitable contribution. You’ll get to enjoy our free towing service and our quick and convenient donation process where you don’t have to do any paperwork. On top of that, you’ll have the privilege of receiving a top tax deduction in the next tax season.

We accept almost all types of vehicles, regardless of their age or condition. Our free pickup and towing services are available in all 50 states, which means that you can make your donation wherever you are in the country.
