Ways to Support Our Homeless Veterans: Thousands of Them Are Crying Out for Help
Homelessness has always been an issue for our former military members. Sad to say, it’s no longer uncommon for us to encounter a veteran begging for alms or food on our streets. Without any job or source of income, thousands of these men and women end up living on the sidewalks and dangerous alleys as well as in public parks and abandoned buildings.
While it’s true that the number of homeless veterans has dropped over the years, there are still thousands of them crying out for help. Let’s not forget that these former soldiers once courageously fought and risked their lives to protect our country and preserve our freedoms. If it weren’t for them and the service they did, do you think we would be as safe and free as we are today?
Instead of getting the rewards and recognition they fully deserve, many of our heroes have apparently been forgotten and left to fend for themselves. Sure, there are government agencies that are supposed to assist them, but their services are often limited. That’s why we are encouraging you to do your part to help out our many homeless vets.
If you’re not sure how to start, here are some great ideas to consider:
- Volunteer.
Reach out to nonprofits that serve homeless veterans in your community and ask what you can do to help. Whether it’s assisting their staff with paperwork or teaching basic life skills to homeless vets in supportive permanent housing, you’ll surely make a difference.
- Donate to a charity.
There are plenty of veteran-focused charities and nonprofit organizations that accept donations for the benefit of homeless Americans. Look for one in your area and contribute whatever you can — clothes, food, or even just a small amount of money. If you’re unable to find a nearby organization, you may check out the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans for options in your state.
- Participate in a Stand Down program.
In case you’re not aware, Stand Downs are outreach events where homeless vets are given access to immediate on-site services such as employment referrals, health care, housing assistance, and counseling. You may head over to this page if you’re interested to join.
- Form a coalition.
Can’t find a group that supports the homeless in your area? Try setting up your own small group or coalition of like-minded people. Spread the word by posting messages on social media, telling your friends and colleagues about them, and asking your friends to share your messages with others.
- Contact local government officials.
Visit your mayor’s office or write a letter to your congressman to address the issues concerning the homeless veterans in your community. Offer suggestions on how the government can assist them or what programs need to be formulated to improve the living conditions of homeless people.
Support Homeless Vets in Your Community with Your Old Car
Did you know that you can help our homeless heroes while getting great rewards for doing so? Just contact us at Veteran Car Donations and turn over to us any old vehicle you have that you no longer need. We’ll turn your no-longer-used car into a life-changing instrument for these suffering veterans. Your donation will greatly benefit not only those veterans who are suffering from homelessness but also those who are struggling with service-connected disabilities, mental health issues, and unemployment.
Once we get hold of your automobile, we’ll have it auctioned off. We will then transfer the collected funds to our charity partners, enabling them to render more services to more needy veterans and their families living in your local area. Beneficiaries will be provided with quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, psychotherapy services, and many other benefits.
In exchange for your charitable deed, we will be sending you the tax-deductible sales receipt of your sold car several days after its sale. This will allow you to claim a top tax deduction in the next tax season.
We’ll also be picking up and towing your car for free, and it’s up to you to decide on your preferred time and place. We can collect your vehicle anywhere in the country.
You can donate nearly any type of vehicle without much regard as to its condition.
