Beat the Summer Heat!
Entering a car that’s been bathing in the sun for an hour or so has got to be one of the most unpleasant experiences you can ever have. Imagine being so excited to get into your vehicle so you can finally cool off after sweating profusely from the scorching summer heat, only to be greeted by a sizzling leather seat, flaming seat belt buckle, and a steering wheel that feels like lava when you touch it.
That can get your blood boiling!
It doesn’t have to be that way though. You can do several things to ensure that you and your car beat the summer heat. Veteran Car Donations has listed these five ways of keeping your parked car cool in summer:
- Choose the right parking spot.
Finding an area with enough shade to park your car will assure you that you’ll return to it just as it was when you left it — cool and comfy.
If a parking garage isn’t an option, you might want to park under some trees on the edge of a parking lot, or in the shade of a building.
However, a secluded area might not be a good place to leave your car, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the place.
Consider the time of day as well. For example, parking in shade at 11 a.m. won’t give you the same amount of shade when you return to your car at 3 in the afternoon.
- Park in your garage.
This one is a no-brainer. But we got to ask: Do you always make it a habit to park in your home garage?
A poll by Garage Living revealed that 20% of 1,500 people don’t park in their garage. A study by the U.S. Department of Energy found that a third of homeowners with two-car garages would only park one of their cars because of clutter.
If clutter’s the reason you’re not using your garage to house your car, then you have to make time to tidy the place up and organize.
Garage parking is the best way to keep your vehicle cool. No matter what time of day it is, your car will never experience the pain of the sweltering heat. Plus, you won’t have to worry about car thieves anymore.
- Use a window visor or sunshade.
Where there’s no shady place to park your car, using a window visor is a great way to keep it safe from the summer sun. A rear visor is ideal if you’re parking for more than two hours.
Many luxury car drivers don’t like the idea of using sunshades because of their unattractive appearance, and we don’t blame them. However, some sunshades are pleasing to the eye. You can even have them customized by companies that offer the service.
If price isn’t an issue for you, go for high-quality sunshades that use better heat-absorbing materials. They can easily reduce the entrance of thermal and UV rays into the cabin of your car.
- Tint your windows.
Window tints are effective in keeping your car cool on an extremely hot day. Tints allow a considerable amount of light to pass through while blocking out the sun’s thermal rays. Good window tints are also designed to cut down on harmful ultraviolet rays.
Bear in mind, however, that there are different state laws regarding car window tints. Some states restrict them, while others only allow a minimum of 70% of the sun’s light through the windows. Be sure to check your state’s regulations first before getting your windows tinted.
- Cover your car interior.
You can cover up all the parts of your interior that get the hottest — from your steering wheel and leather seats to your dashboard. Use a cloth cover for your steering wheel to protect your hands from the burning heat. Don’t let the sun damage your dash by using a high-quality cover.
You’ll also need to cover your leather seats, especially if your car’s been sitting in direct sunlight for more than an hour. If you don’t have any seat covering with you, you can lay down a towel before getting out of your car.
Do You Have a Clunker That’s Causing You Headaches?
If you know the ways of keeping your car cool in summer, it won’t be a problem to keep yourself cool and comfortable inside your vehicle even under the sweltering heat of the sun.
However, if you have a car that’s plagued with several mechanical issues, including a defective A/C, you can’t expect to have a comfortable ride. Rather than waste your hard-earned money in trying to fix your clunker to no avail, donate it to us here at Veteran Car Donations. We’ll use it to improve the living conditions of the struggling veterans and their families in your local area while giving you all the great benefits that we provide to all our donors.
We’ll put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran-focused nonprofit partners.
