Want to Help a Vet with TBI?
Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI is one of the more common injuries suffered by members of our armed forces. From 2000 to 2019, a total of 413,858 of our troops worldwide were diagnosed with TBI, according to the Department of Defense.
Fortunately, most of the cases were considered to be mild (82.8%). Some 9.8% were classified as moderate while 2.3% were severe. The severe cases involved soldiers who were deployed on the front lines in Iraq or Afghanistan. TBI cases resulting from training activities or non-deployment settings are also common.
Soldiers and veterans with mild TBI cases are easily treated and usually recover quickly. However, those diagnosed with severe TBI need expert supervision from doctors, a solid foundation of support, and regular care.
If you know a veteran with TBI and you want to help, Veteran Car Donations presents these five ways of supporting them:
- Uninterrupted sleep.
Uninterrupted rest is essential for a TBI patient’s recovery. The patient can’t have enough rest if there are distractions around them. Help clear their room of possible distractions and dim the lights.
- Help them with small tasks.
If you can help them with small tasks that can clear their day faster, offer to do so. The faster they can rest or relax, the better.
- Buy them comfort food.
Eating our favorite dishes isn’t only satisfying, it’s comforting, too. Buy them their favorite pastry, meal, or coffee to help reduce the stress they’re going through
- Join them in watching their favorite movies.
Watch their favorite movies with them so they can pass the time easily. It’s lonely watching by yourself compared to watching with a friend.
- Let them know they can to talk you.
Re-assure them that if there’s anything they want to get off their chest or just rant about, you’re there for them. The better they feel, the easier it is for them to recover.
Reach Out to Veterans in Desperate Need of Help
Health issues and disabilities aren’t the only things our former service members are struggling with. Following their separation from the service, veterans face tough hurdles in their transition to civilian life. Unemployment and homelessness dispel their dreams of living a decent and fulfilling life.
The good news is that you can easily extend a helping hand to the suffering veterans in your community. All you have to do is donate any type of vehicle that you’re no longer using to us at Veteran Car Donations.
We will put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran-focused nonprofit partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations use the funding that we give them to provide their beneficiaries with free quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, psychotherapy services, and many other benefits.
You will also benefit from your charitable contribution since you’ll get to enjoy our free towing service, which is available to our donors in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. You’ll also find satisfaction from our quick and convenient donation process where you don’t have to do any paperwork.
Moreover, you’ll have the privilege of receiving the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season that can significantly lower your tax bill.
Above all, you’ll have the ultimate pleasure of doing something extraordinary that can help uplift the lives of our nation’s suffering heroes.
We accept almost all vehicle types, including those that are no longer working properly.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call us anytime through our toll-free hotline at 877-594-5822 or you may send us a message here. Check out our FAQs page for more information on our donation program.
