Let Them Know That They’re Not Alone
Every last Sunday of September, the nation turns silent to reach out to mothers whose sons and daughters in the military have died while in service. It’s Gold Star Mother’s Day, which takes place on September 22nd this year.
The event is intended to honor the mothers and families of servicemen and servicewomen who perished in times of war or conflict. Led by the American Gold Star Mothers Inc., the activities include flower laying services, memorials, and an afternoon tour of President Lincoln’s cottage in Washington, D.C.
One of the greatest tragedies for any parent is losing a child. In the case of Gold Star Mothers, they take comfort only in the knowledge that their children have served the country bravely and fought to uphold the rights of Americans to live peacefully and freely.
Gold Star Mother’s Day is a good opportunity to comfort military mothers and families who have lost their loved ones. It is a time not only to share their grief but also to honor and appreciate the extraordinary sacrifice that their children had made to protect and serve their fellow Americans.
Veteran Car Donations shares some of the things you can do to condole with Gold Star mothers by honoring their beloved children:
- Hold a tribute.
In your town or community, honor our fallen heroes by holding a special tribute for these brave men and women. Invite their friends and family to talk about them as individuals. Share your thoughts on how they will be remembered and cherished by everyone in your community. Sharing your heartfelt gratitude for these fallen heroes can mean a great deal to their families.
- Dedicate a memorial.
Ask your town leadership to start a community project in honor of the departed service members such as by renaming a community garden or park in their honor. This way, they will always be remembered.
- Plant a tree.
Immortalize a fallen soldier by sending their name to PlantMemorialTree.com, an organization that plants trees in our national forests to pay tribute to individuals and at the same time restore areas damaged by fire, insects, and natural disasters. Even after their death, they can still be instrumental in saving the lives of people by saving the environment.
- Invite the families over.
Something simple like inviting over the family of a fallen soldier can help them feel that they are not alone and that they belong to a community that is willing to help and support them in the absence of their family member.
Reach Out to Veterans in Need
Another meaningful way to observe National Gold Star Mother’s Day is by reaching out to the veterans in your community who are dealing with poverty, homelessness, unemployment, disabilities, and poor health, including mental issues.
Although they survived the wars they fought, they need your help so they can live decent and healthy lives, which they fully deserved for the invaluable service they rendered to our nation.
You can extend them a helping hand by simply donating any vehicle you no longer need to us at Veteran Car Donations. We’ll use your donation to improve the living conditions of the struggling veterans in your community.
Our team will auction off your car and use the proceeds to support the life-enhancement programs of our veteran-focused charity partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with housing and financial assistance, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, scholarships, and other services meant to uplift their lives.
Your donation will entitle you to claim the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season. We’ll mail you the 100% tax-deductible sales tax receipt of your auto soon after its sale. You will also benefit from our free pickup and towing service, which is available to our donors in all parts of the United States.
