Stay Safe on the Road!
Since your tires are your vehicle’s primary contact point to the road, they play a vital role in giving you a safe, smooth, and comfortable ride. Your tires help you stop your car quickly and allow you to steer it accurately. For these reasons, ensuring that they’re in good condition at all times is extremely important.
They won’t be in good condition if they have irregular tire wear patterns. Unevenly worn tires can cause not just road noise but also a significant loss of traction that could put you at risk on the road. To avoid an accident-causing blowout, it’s best to do regular visual inspections of your tires to check for signs of uneven wear.
Watch out for bad wheel alignment, unbalanced tires, improper tire inflation, bent or broken wheels, and worn-down suspension and shocks. They’re some of the possible causes of uneven tire wear.
Uneven Tire Wear Patterns and What They Mean
Knowing the different uneven tire wear patterns and what they mean will help you avoid a potentially dangerous tire situation. Veteran Car Donations helps you do just that by sharing the following uneven tire wear patterns and what causes them:
- Inner-edge tire wear
Inner edge wear patterns could indicate out-of-spec wheel alignment. Wheels may lean too far inward from the top when viewed from the front when your wheel alignment has excessive negative camber. Consequently, too much negative camber causes more wear because this puts excessive pressure on your tire’s inner edge.
Experts recommend regular tire rotations to change how your tires sit on the road and even out any wear caused by negative camber. Failing to rotate your tires by the manufacturer’s recommendations can lead to inner- and outer-edge tire wear.
- Outer-edge tire wear
Your tires may also lean in the same way a bad wheel alignment does if you have worn wheel bearings, ball joints, bushing, or tire rods. Since these suspension components hold your wheels and tires securely in position, once they become worn, they can also cause excessive tire wear on the outer edge of your tires.
It’s worth noting that a vehicle’s suspension is composed of multiple connected parts. In some cases, wear or damage to one component can cause damage to the others. You can prevent outer-edge tire wear by keeping your suspension in good working order through regular inspection and prompt repairs.
Furthermore, outer-edge tire wear can also result from an exceedingly positive chamber. Ensuring proper wheel alignment and regular tire rotation can help you even out signs of irregular wear over time.
- Inner- and outer-edge tire wear
Tires may also have excessive wear patterns on their inner and outer edges. In most cases, inner- and outer-edge tire wear confuses vehicle owners and drivers because they can’t determine whether an excessively negative or positive camber is causing the problem. However, inner and outer wear may have nothing to do with wheel alignment.
Low tire pressure causes the middle of the tire to sink inward. As a result, the bulk of the vehicle’s weight rests on the tire’s inner and outer edges, causing excessive wear on both sides. Although you won’t likely notice this wear when you’re driving, tell-tale signs include a dip in fuel economy and reduced traction in wet road conditions.
You’ll want to consult your owner’s manual or check the label on the driver’s side door jamb for the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure. Inflating your tires to the correct psi will allow you to avoid this problem.
- Center tire wear
The tire is likely overinflated if it shows excessive wear in the middle of the tread. Although center tire wear doesn’t exhibit direct and consistent symptoms, you’ll notice less traction when driving on wet roads. However, with regular inspection, you can identify this type of tire wear and inflate your tires to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Is It Time to Get Rid of Your Vehicle?
Since many vehicle owners don’t usually catch uneven tire wear until it’s too late, it’s best to keep an eye out for unevenly worn spots and promptly address them to ensure your comfort and safety on the road. However, if you’re dealing with more significant repair issues that require a ton of money to fix, you’d be better off disposing of your beater before it sucks the life out of your wallet.
The most satisfying and rewarding way to do that is by donating that vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations. We’ll give your car a new and worthy purpose that will make you proud. We’ll transform it into a powerful tool for improving the lives of the struggling disadvantaged veterans in your community.
Our team will have your donated vehicle fixed before putting it up for auction. We will then hand over the proceeds to our veteran-focused and IRS-certified 501(c)(3) charity partners. These are reputable nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to helping former U.S. service members who have become homeless and impoverished, those who can’t find decent jobs, and those who are suffering from service-connected disabilities and serious illnesses, including mental health issues.
Our nonprofit partners use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with housing and financial assistance, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, scholarships, and many other benefits.
You’ll reap valuable rewards from your charitable contribution. We’ll pick up and tow your vehicle at no cost to you anywhere in the country. You’ll also have the privilege to claim the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season.
However, these material perks may pale in comparison to the priceless joy of knowing that you’re doing something that will give needy veterans the help they need to get back on their feet.
Since we’re willing to accept nearly all vehicle types, feel free to donate whatever vehicle you have regardless of its age and condition.
