Check Out the Agency’s Available Treatment Options

Thousands of our former service members are in a battle against a new enemy, which is inside them: substance abuse. After witnessing and experiencing traumatic events in the foreign war zones where they were once deployed, many of them have developed mental disorders such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To cope with these terrible conditions, they’ve turned to alcohol, tobacco, or drugs.

While there are vets who don’t see an issue in their excessive substance use, there are others who want to break free from their addiction. However, they find it difficult to stop on their own. Fortunately, the VA offers services for veterans who want to break free from substance abuse.

The VA provides several treatment options, depending on the severity of the addiction and the specific needs of the veteran. It’s important to note that some vets, particularly those who have no related problems, might recover more quickly than others.

Among the services provided by the VA are the following:

  1. Counseling and other therapy options
    • Intensive outpatient treatment;
    • Short-term outpatient counseling;
    • Helping vets improve their skills in identifying and managing triggers and relapse risks;
    • Helping vets discover their motivation for change;
    • Residential or live-in care;
    • Self-help groups;
    • Marriage and family counseling;
    • Special programs for veterans with specific concerns ( returning combat vets, homeless vets, female vets, etc.);
    • Continuing care and relapse prevention;
    • Getting outside support for recovery.

To make it easier and more convenient for veterans to attend their therapy and counseling sessions, the VA offers evening and weekend schedules.

Veterans who live far from a VA facility, or those who have unstable homes, may opt for the residential or live-in care option.

  1. Medication options
    • Specific medications to manage withdrawal symptoms, promote abstinence, and reduce craving;
    • Nicotine replacement or other medicines to stop tobacco use;
    • Drug substitution therapies and medications to reduce cravings;
    • Medically managed detoxification to safely stop substance use;
    • Bupropion to treat depression.

You Can Help Vets with Substance Abuse Problems

The VA isn’t the only platform that assists former service members who are seeking treatment for substance abuse. We at Veteran Car Donations have also been working tirelessly for years to ensure that these men and women beat their addiction. Our beneficiaries also include veterans who can’t find employment, those who have no financial means to support their families, those who are suffering from service-connected disabilities or mental health issues, and those who have become homeless for lack of support.

However, we cannot succeed in our mission without the support of our donors. That’s why we’re here to seek your support. All you need to do is to donate to us any old car or any other type of vehicle that you have that you no longer need or use. When you do that, you’ll help us raise funds for our IRS-certified 501(c)3 nonprofit partners. These are military and veteran nonprofits that are dedicated to improving the living conditions of disadvantaged vets and their loved ones.

The proceeds generated from the sale of your automobile will enable our nonprofit partners to deliver a range of life-enriching programs and services to their beneficiaries, including psychotherapy services, free quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, and educational scholarships.

Our donation process is quick, straightforward, and convenient. Simply let us know that you’re donating, provide us a few basic details about the car you’re offering to hand over to us, schedule its free towing, and that’s it for you! Our team will take care of everything else.

Expect a tax-deductible receipt in your mailbox within 30 days following the sale of your donated vehicle. Be sure to keep it with you, as you’ll need it when claiming your top tax deduction in the next tax season.

Our towing service is available in all parts of the U.S. Just tell us when and where you want your car hauled away, and we’ll send a tow truck over.

You can donate any type of vehicle regardless of its condition.
