Condole with the Wives and Husbands Who Have Been Left Behind

Gold Star Spouses Day on April 5th is a day of remembrance for the spouses of U.S. military members who lost their lives while serving their country. The wives and husbands who have been left behind by their fallen loved ones in the military are called Gold Star Spouses.

On this day, concerned organizations host events to honor our country’s fallen warriors and show their support for their Gold Star Spouses.

Gold Star Spouses Day — formerly known as Gold Star Wives Day — was first observed in December 2010. In 2012, the United States Senate designated the annual observance to fall on April 5th. The name of the observance was later changed from “Gold Star Wives Day” to “Gold Star Spouses Day” to be more inclusive of all spouses.

This April 5th, take time to condole with and show your respect to the grieving spouses of our soldiers who died in the line of duty. Veteran Car Donations presents five heartfelt ways to do that:

  1. Remember the families.

Families want to know that the sacrifices made by their fallen loved ones haven’t been forgotten. Send them your condolences in the form of a card, a letter, a phone call, or a personal visit. There are no words that can alleviate the pain, but showing that you care and remember will mean a lot to them.

  1. Invite them to a restaurant for a meal.

Take a Gold Star Spouse to their loved one’s favorite restaurant or look for one that serves their loved one’s favorite meal or dessert. Share a meal, a smile, and perhaps a few tears.

  1. In their honor, plant a tree.

Consider planting a tree in a particular place designated by the Gold Star Spouse to remember their loved one. If the fallen soldier’s spouse or family cannot care for it, offer to plant the tree on your property instead.

  1. Light a candle.

A simple yet meaningful way to reassure a Gold Star Spouse that the life and sacrifice of their loved one will always be remembered is by lighting a candle in their honor and reflecting on their life.

  1. Talk about the life of their loved one.

Tell a Gold Star Spouse stories about their fallen loved one. Looking through their photos when they were still alive can bring back many happy memories and encourage the spouse and their family to celebrate the life lived by their loved one rather than their death.

Reach Out to the Struggling Veterans in Your Community

As you show your respect to the spouses of our country’s fallen soldiers on Gold Star Spouses Day, take time as well to reach out to the veterans residing in your community, particularly those who are beset with tough challenges in life.

One simple way to do that is by donating any motor vehicle you can spare to us at Veteran Car Donations.

We’ll put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran-focused nonprofit partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are dedicated to improving the lives of U.S. veterans who are homeless due to extreme poverty, chronically unemployed, and suffering from service-connected disabilities as well as serious illnesses, including mental health conditions.

Our charity partners use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with free quality health care, financial aid, housing assistance, employment opportunities, family support, educational scholarships, psychotherapy services, and many other benefits.

Donating to us is not only stress-free but extremely rewarding as well. Your charitable contribution will entitle you to claim the highest possible tax deduction in the next tax season.

You will also receive free professional towing service from us. Don’t worry if you’re not located in a major city — we can collect your donation wherever you are since our vehicle donation program covers the entire country.

Aside from the material rewards, nothing will beat the uplifting sense of fulfillment you’ll experience, knowing that your donation will help transform the lives of the suffering veterans and their families in your community.

We accept almost all vehicle types regardless of their age or condition. Whether you’re donating a car that still looks new or one that’s already rusty, we’ll be happy to accept it.

Our donation process is easy, quick, and convenient. All you have to do is contact us by phone or online. You’ll be done in just a few minutes and you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your home.
