Feed the Homeless Among Our Veterans and Uplift their Lives With Your Car Donations

One of the most upsetting and disgusting images one can possibly see is a U.S. veteran turned homeless beggar begging for food on the sidewalk. That image is not at all uncommon as tens of thousands of our former troops are now living on our streets and sidewalks, in abandoned buildings and cars, and in parks and parking lots, driven by extreme poverty, lack of support networks, and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing.

Thus, the most urgent need is to feed the homeless in America, including our impoverished veterans. The number of mouths to feed is huge. Based on the latest national point-in-time estimate (January 2017), there are an estimated 553,742 people in the United States experiencing homelessness on any given night. This represents a rate of approximately 17 people experiencing homelessness per every 10,000 people in the general population.

Of the more than half a million homeless Americans, 7.2 percent were veterans (40,056), according to the report. Many of these homeless vets have physical disabilities and mentally ill with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

U.S. federal legislation defines the homeless as people who “lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.”

These are the veterans who fought to defend America’s interest, preserve our freedoms, and protect our national security when they were still active-duty soldiers deployed in the war zones of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam. They are considered America’s heroes for the invaluable service they did for our nation.

But instead of the honors and the good life that heroes are usually given, many of our veterans have to even beg for food to ease their hunger.

How We Help Feed the Homeless Veterans

Although our government is trying to alleviate the problem of homelessness and hunger among our veterans, there remains a yawning gap of service that needs to be bridged.

That’s where we at Veteran Car Donations come in to fill this gap. In partnership with reputable military and veteran non-profit organizations, we operate vehicle donation programs that raise funds to sustain, develop, and improve these non-profits’ veteran-directed services.

We are not only able to feed the homeless veterans but also provide them decent mortgage-free housing.

Those who have service-related physical disabilities are also being provided with specially adapted houses to facilitate their movement, thanks to our donors who make all these services to our nation’s heroes possible.

Aside from housing and feeding destitute veterans, Veteran Car Donations and our non-profit partners also provide our heroes the following:

  • Medical care for those who are struggling with mental and physical problems;
  • General transitioning assistance for those who were recently discharged;
  • Job training programs and career workshops to boost their chances of employment; and
  • Grief counseling sessions for the families left behind by our fallen heroes.
