This Will Save You Many Trips to the Auto Shop

Your car’s fluids play a vital role in your vehicle’s performance and longevity. That is why it is an important part of car maintenance that you fill the fluids in the proper levels to avoid auto problems.

Checking your car’s fluids is easy. You can do it yourself to save up on trips to the auto repair shop. You need to check your fluids every 3,000 or 5,000 miles. You can also check your vehicle owner’s manual for the recommended frequency of changes and refills. Making proper fluid refills can help keep your car in good shape for many years to come.

Veteran Car Donations has listed the six types of vehicle fluids that you need to check and replenish regularly.

  1. Engine oil

Engine oil keeps the moving parts of your engine lubricated. To check if you need a refill, open the cap labeled motor oil or check for a cap with a symbol of an oil canister. Use a dipstick that can be found near the front of the engine or behind the engine. Wipe it clean with a rag and insert it into the tube. Pull it back up to see your fluid level. The dipstick has a marked indicator for full. Simply add engine oil when you need to refill.

  1. Coolant

Your car’s coolant, also called antifreeze, serves a dual purpose. It keeps your engine cool in the summer and prevents it from freezing during the winter.

Find the radiator cap with the word “coolant” or a symbol of a thermometer with waves underneath it. It must be filled to the top. Coolants come in different colors and are based on the types and models of vehicles. Make sure to refill the right color. Never mix a different type of coolant with the one already in your coolant reservoir.

  1. Power steering fluid

Power steering helps you with your car’s maneuverability. You can also check it by using a dipstick.

  1. Brake fluid

The brake fluid is important in ensuring that your brakes perform well when you are on the road. Simply open the brake fluid cap and peer inside to check for the level and color. If it is not amber or white-wine in color, it needs to be changed.

  1. Transmission fluid

This fluid serves as a lubricant and cooling agent for your vehicle’s transmission components. You can use a dipstick to check this. When you do this, your engine needs to be running while your transmission is in park mode to see the transmission fluid’s condition. It should have an amber color.

  1. Windshield washer fluid

This fluid helps you with your visibility during rainy or snowy weather. Simply check the level and refill until it is close to the top. You can even add a portion of Rain-X for a cleaner windshield.

Don’t Know What to Do with Your Beater?

You won’t have problems checking your vehicle’s fluids because it’s quite easy to do. However, the case is altogether different when you have an old car that’s plagued with complicated issues that require costly repairs and parts replacements.

If the costs of repairs are simply too much for you, how about simply donating that vehicle to us here at Veteran Car Donations? We’ll use your automobile to uplift the lives of the struggling veterans in your community. They include those former service members who are suffering from homelessness, chronic unemployment, disabilities, and illnesses, including PTSD and other mental health conditions.

We will do this by auctioning off your vehicle and using the proceeds to support the critical veteran-focused programs and services of our nonprofit partners. Like us, these IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are also fully committed to improving the living conditions of our veterans.

The money will help them provide more deserving veterans and their families with free access to quality health care, counseling and psychotherapy services, job opportunities, housing assistance, financial aid, scholarships, and family support.

As our way of showing gratitude for your gift, we’ll mail you your 100% tax-deductible sales receipt. This will entitle you to receive the maximum tax deduction based on your vehicle’s selling price or value.

We’ll also be hauling off your vehicle without charging you a single dollar.

However, the best reward you’ll get is the priceless feeling of satisfaction, knowing that your act of charity will help uplift the lives of our neglected and suffering heroes.

We take almost all types of vehicles, including those that are barely running and with a few damaged parts. As long as the car you’re donating is not stolen or abandoned, we wouldn’t have a problem accepting it.

There’s also no problem as far as your location is concerned. We can collect your donation wherever you are located in the country since our vehicle donation program covers the entire United States.
