Honor Our Heroes Who Are Still Missing or in Captivity
In some war movies, soldiers are portrayed as constantly repeating the motto “Leave no man behind.” They valiantly lay their own lives on the line to recover the bodies of their fallen comrades and stop at nothing to save the wounded.
In real life, certain situations prevent this from happening. War is unforgiving, and many American service members get caught in the crossfire. That’s why thousands of our troops are still missing in action while some have been captured by the enemy.
National POW/MIA Recognition Day is a day dedicated for those soldiers. The day is observed every third Friday of September, which is September 16th this year.
On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, Americans stand together to show their appreciation for the service rendered by our missing and captured soldiers. It is a show of commitment to stand behind those who served our nation and to show that everything is being done to account for those who have not returned or remain in captivity.
Facts about POWs and MIAs You Should Know
Based on figures from the Congressional Research Service report and Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, thousands of American service members have not yet returned to their families. Veteran Car Donations has gathered these details about our POW and MIA troops:
- During World War II, 130,201 U.S. service members were imprisoned; 14,072 of them died.
- 7,140 U.S. service members were imprisoned during the Korean War; 2,701 of them died.
- During the Vietnam War, 725 U.S. service members were captured; 64 of them perished.
- Since 1991, 37 U.S. service members have been captured during conflict events; none remain in captivity.
- A total of 83,114 Americans remain missing in action. They include 73,515 from World War II, 7,841 from the Korean War, 1,626 from the Vietnam War, 126 from the Cold War, and six from conflicts since 1991.
Support the Struggling Veterans in Your Community
Paying tribute to our missing or captured service members is a sign of our respect for their bravery and heroism. Those who have returned equally deserve our respect and appreciation. They, too, are heroes.
Sadly, many of these veterans are living in misery. They’re suffering from poverty, homelessness, chronic unemployment, disabilities, and serious illnesses, including mental health issues.
You can extend them a helping hand by simply donating any vehicle you can spare to us at Veteran Car Donations. We’ll convert your donation into a powerful tool for transforming their lives, giving them hope for a brighter future.
Our team will auction off your donated auto and hand over the proceeds to our veteran-focused charity partners. These IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations provide deserving veterans with housing assistance, financial aid, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, educational scholarships, and many other benefits all aimed at raising the quality of their lives.
Donating to Veteran Car Donations will allow you to receive valuable rewards, such as getting entitled to receive the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season and getting a professional pickup and towing service from us anywhere in the country at no cost to you.
More valuable than these material rewards, you’ll get to experience the priceless joy and satisfaction of doing something that will help uplift the lives of our nation’s heroes — those men and women who fought and risked their lives for us so we can live in freedom and peace.
We’re not choosy on the type and condition of the vehicle you intend to donate. We accept nearly all vehicle types, including those that are no longer in good condition and won’t even start anymore.
