Beware of Even Minor Leaks!
Owning a car can be frustrating at times. Flat tires, strange noises from the engine, and squeaking brakes are just some of the common issues that can drive vehicle owners nuts. One of the most bothersome is finding a puddle of greasy brown liquid under your car after parking it for a while.
That’s when you realize that oil is leaking from your engine. Bummer.
Unfortunately, changing the oil alone may not be enough to fix the problem. You’ll need to identify the cause of the leak, perform the necessary repairs, and, depending on the amount of oil you lost, either top it off yourself or have an auto mechanic change the oil.
The best option, however, is to take your car to the mechanic as soon as you discover the oil leak. They’ll be able to pinpoint the problem, fix it, and restore your car’s health.
All cars can experience oil leaks no matter how fancy or technologically advanced they are. If left untreated, these minor leaks or slow drips can turn into a serious threat to a car. The earlier you get it checked, the better.
So what’s causing your engine oil to leak? Veteran Car Donations has compiled six possible reasons:
- Oil Gasket
In most cases, oil leaks occur because of a degraded gasket. The gasket, which is a seal that connects two metal components in the engine, tends to break down over time due to the buildup of sludge.
- Oil Pan
Since your vehicle’s pan is attached to the bottom of the engine, it can easily be damaged by road debris. A dented oil pan can cause the seal to loosen up, which in turn, results in an oil leak.
- Oil Filter
Another possible reason is that the oil filter is not properly aligned or attached. Once the engine oil flows through a loose filter, the chances of a leak are massive. You need to get your filter changed every time you get an oil replacement. More importantly, have it checked for proper fitting.
- Oil Filler Cap
An oil filler cap that’s broken or loose increases the engine’s pressure, causing oil to spill out from the engine as your car is running.
- Oil Drain Plug
Misaligned or worn-out threads, or a loose oil drain plug, are common causes of oil leaks. Fresh oil around the plug is telling you that there’s a leak. You can find the oil drain plug at the base of the oil pan.
- Improper Installations
An incorrectly installed gasket can be the culprit behind your car’s oil leak. This usually happens when the valve cover gasket or oil pan gasket is extremely tight, or when the tightness is not distributed evenly.
Is Your Car Giving You Lots of Trouble?
If your car leaks oil and shows other bothersome symptoms of old age, perhaps it’s time to retire it. If it no longer makes sense to spend a fortune on its constant repairs, your best option is to hand it over to a charity that supports a cause close to your heart and one that will provide you with a rewarding giving experience.
When you donate that vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations, you’ll be helping uplift the lives of the disadvantaged and struggling veterans in your local area. In doing that, expect to receive outstanding rewards for your charitable act.
Our team will put your vehicle up for auction, with the proceeds going to our veteran and military nonprofit partners. These reputable IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are dedicated to improving the lives of former U.S. service members who are homeless, unable to find decent jobs, and suffering from disabilities as well as serious illnesses, including mental health disorders.
Our charity partners use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with housing assistance, financial aid, employment and livelihood opportunities, family support, free quality health care and medical treatment, psychotherapy services, educational scholarships, and many other benefits.
Donating to Veteran Car Donations entitles you to receive valuable rewards, such as getting entitled to receive the maximum tax deduction in the next tax season and getting a professional pickup and towing service from us anywhere in the country at no cost to you.
More valuable than these material rewards, you’ll get to experience the priceless joy and satisfaction of doing something that will help improve the living conditions of our nation’s heroes — those men and women who fought and risked their lives for us so we can live in freedom and peace.
