Avoid Accidents and Costly Repairs by Knowing What’s Wrong with Your Auto
Driving a car that shakes when you’re driving it at high speed can be a frightening experience. If this happens to you, the first thing you should do is take your vehicle to your trusted mechanic.
Failing to do so can cause damage to other parts of your car, leaving you no choice but to pay for its costly repairs. Plus, it can increase your risk of getting into a catastrophic accident.
Veteran Car Donations lists the top six reasons why cars vibrate at higher speeds:
- Unbalanced tires
Tires are one of the most common causes of cars shaking at high speed. The amount of air in each tire should be evenly distributed so your vehicle can move straight without shaking. To confirm whether the vibrating stems from a tire imbalance, check if your tires show unusual wear and tear in the form of flat spots.
A simple wheel balancing is all it may take to stop your car from shaking, so be sure to visit a tire shop once you realize that this is the issue.
- Low tire pressure
As with unbalanced tires, underinflated tires can also cause your car to rattle at high speed. See if your tires contain the appropriate amount of air pressure by consulting your owner’s manual. If they’re indeed running low, head your way to the nearest tire filling station or fill them yourself if you have the tools.
It’s also worth noting that tires left underinflated for a long time can reduce tire resistance, which will cause the tire to pop eventually.
- Bad brakes
Any issues with the car brakes can result in a vibrating car. Fortunately, this is quite easy to spot. As you’re driving at high speed, step on the brakes to detect the brake disc’s problem.
A deformed or worn-out disc will reduce the braking force of your car and cause it to vibrate when you apply the brake. If this is the case, you’ll need to get a new replacement ASAP.
- Engine problems
If you feel that the vibration is coming from the engine as you speed up, it could be from a lack of power, fuel, or oxygen getting to it. Carefully inspect the fuel filter, air filter, and spark plugs to see if they’re worn out and in need of replacements.
- Damaged shock absorber
Another culprit to look at is a defective shock absorber. The vibration will generally surface when you’re driving at high speed. If the vibration persists even when you slow down, this could indicate a damaged shock absorber. Have it repaired or replaced immediately.
- Broken axle
A bent or broken axle can make the wheels unstable, hence the vibrations while you’re driving at high speed. Since the axle is located at the bottom of the car, getting it damaged can impact the stability of your vehicle. Bring your car to the repair shop once you suspect a broken axle.
The Best Way to Put an End to Your Car Woes
Is vibration just one of the numerous defects that are bugging your car? If it no longer makes sense to spend a fortune for its repairs, why not put an end to your misery by simply handing over that vehicle to us at Veteran Car Donations? We’ll use it to improve the living conditions of the disadvantaged and neglected veterans in your local area.
Our team will sell your donated vehicle through an auction and distribute the proceeds to our veteran-focused charity partners. These IRS-certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits are dedicated to helping our former servicemen and servicewomen who are homeless and perennially jobless, as well as those who are suffering from service-connected disabilities and physical and mental illnesses.
Our charity partners use the funding we give them to provide their beneficiaries with free quality health care, job opportunities, financial aid, housing assistance, psychological services, educational scholarships, family support, and many other benefits that are all aimed at uplifting their lives.
As a donor, you will reap valuable rewards. We’ll promptly mail to you the 100% tax-deductible sales receipt of your car soon after it’s sold. The receipt will entitle you to claim the highest possible tax deduction.
We’ll also haul your vehicle away for free at a time and place of your preference anywhere in the United States.
We accept other vehicles aside from cars. We also take motorbikes, RVs, buses, watercraft, golf carts, motorized wheelchairs, and more. They don’t even have to be in good condition, either.
